Getting Started with Kuata
Welcome to Kuata your secure digital identity wallet. This guide walks you through everything you need to get up and running, from downloading the app to completing your first identity verification.
1.1 System Requirements
Requirement | Details |
Operating System | iOS 14.0 or later · Android 9.0 (API Level 28) or later |
Storage | At least 200 MB of free space |
Camera | Required for document scanning and liveness check |
Internet | 3G or faster for onboarding; offline mode available after setup |
Government ID | Valid, unexpired national identity document (country-specific) |
1.2 Downloading the App
Kuata is available on:
• App Store (iOS) — search for "Kuata Digital Wallet"
• Google Play (Android) — search for "Kuata Digital Wallet"
• Direct APK — available for enterprise and government deployments
1.3 Creating Your Account
The onboarding process takes approximately 3–5 minutes and requires a stable internet connection.
Step-by-Step
1. Open the app and select your country / region.
2. Enter your mobile phone number and verify it via the one-time code sent by SMS.
3. When prompted, scan both sides of your government-issued national identity document.
4. Complete the liveness check: look straight at the camera, blink once, and turn your head slightly. This confirms you are physically present.
5. Kuata cross-checks your identity against the relevant national registry (this takes 10–60 seconds depending on the registry).
6. Set a 6-digit PIN — choose something memorable but not obvious (avoid birth dates).
7. Optionally enable biometric login (fingerprint or face) for faster access.
Note: Your biometric data is stored exclusively on your device's secure enclave. Kuata never transmits or stores raw biometric data on its servers. |
1.4 Supported Identity Documents
Supported document types vary by country. The following document categories are accepted where the relevant national registry integration is active:
Document Type | Common Name | Notes |
National Identity Card | BI / NID / CNI / Ausweis | Primary onboarding document |
Passport | International travel document | Accepted in all markets |
Driving Licence | Driving licence / Driver's license | Requires transport authority integration |
Birth Certificate | Civil registration document | Available where supported |
Tax Certificate | NIF / TIN / VAT number document | For financial services use cases |
Proof of Address | Utility bill or official correspondence | Self-upload + optional registry match |
Vaccination Record | Health credential | Requires national health authority integration |
Student Card | Institutional ID | Available where institution API is active |
Work / Residence Permit | Issued by immigration authority | Planned — phased rollout |
1.5 Setting Up Biometric Login
8. Go to Settings → Security → Biometric login.
9. Tap Enable and authenticate with your PIN.
10. Follow your device prompts to register your fingerprint or face.
11. From now on, unlock the app and approve transactions with a touch or glance.
Note: Biometric login can be disabled at any time in Settings → Security. Your PIN remains the fallback authentication method. |
1.6 Offline Mode
Once your account is set up, Kuata works without an internet connection for:
• Viewing and presenting all stored identity documents
• Generating QR codes for offline document sharing (valid for 24 hours)
• Reviewing your transaction history (last 90 days cached)
Offline document QR codes use JWS/RS256 cryptographic signatures compliant with FIPS 140-2 Level 3. Verifiers can confirm authenticity without any network call using the Kuata Verifier app.
The following features require an active internet connection: sending money, paying bills, adding new documents, and using Akili AI (Pro plan).
1.7 Transferring to a New Device
Your Kuata account is linked to your identity, not your device. To move to a new phone:
12. Install Kuata on the new device.
13. Enter your registered phone number and verify via SMS.
14. Complete a brief identity re-verification (liveness check).
15. Set a PIN on the new device.
Your documents, transaction history, and account settings are restored automatically. For security, the old device is automatically signed out.
